Just this past weekend, the most eligible college applicant of the year, Malia Obama, selected Harvard University as the institution in which to pursue her undergraduate education. The only caveat is that she will attend, not this fall of 2016 like she was supposed to, but next fall of 2017. In other words, Malia will be taking, what we in the college admissions world know as, the GAP year. But what is exactly a GAP year? What are its benefits? And why would Malia Obama do this?
