Can a student get out of Early Decision?

Early Decision (ED) is binding, and colleges treat it as a serious commitment. Yet, it is not legally binding. Students can back out with a solid reason, such as not getting enough financial aid. So, yes it’s best to apply ED only if you’re completely sure it’s your top choice but you can back out if the numbers don't work out for you.
